Transitions
It is strange to think that it has been over 5 months since I last wrote a journal. I lot has changed in this time. The most obvious would be that where as before I was held in a limbo waiting for A-Level results, I am now a fully fledged school graduate and have now been at Canterbury Christ Church University for nearly three months.
This is not the first time I have been away from home but boy is it different to a boarding school. Washing my own clothes, ironing, cooking etc, you really dont appreciate what your parents actually do for you until you have to do it all for yourself.
Now I am certainly not the most accomplished chef, nor am I a particularly organised person (my time keeping skills leave a lot to be desired.) However, as I have found with living independently, there is no mum to drag you out of bed in the morning, or nag you to do your schoolwork, it is YOUR responsibility and the first time you realise this it is a bit of a shock to the system.
Parents are the unappreciated, over used and taken for granted essence of a household and till you live alone for the first time you have no true sense of their value.
Now dont get me wrong, I LOVE being a student, Canterbury is such a vibrant city and there is always something going on. I love being able to drink legally, though I had to leave my car back home which is a bit of a bummer. My course is good, though at first I was a little apprehensive as it was not a teaching course. I really enjoy the English aspects of the course and the media is proving interesting. I still have hope that one day I can be a teacher but right now I am happy where I am.
A few things I have learnt so far
Clothes will not wash nor iron themselves, no matter how much you stare at them.
Pre drinks are your best friend for a cheap night out.
Yorkshire puddings are also your best friend.
Washing up will sit in the sink indefinitely.
9am lectures are not fun.
The freedom you so craved for months at home is a backstabber, as you will call home more often then you thought you would.
Late night cooking is a good idea, so long as youre hungry, but NOT DRUNK.
The girls bathroom will always be cleaner than the boys, because we know how to use a toilet brush, and a shower curtain
.
You do actually have to do work at University.
oooh almost forgot my fangirl squeel!

Hope you are all well!
